Recordati licenses an immuno-suppressant drug for Italy, France and Spain

Recordati announced today that it has acquired an exclusive license for the sale in Italy, France and Spain of a new oral formulation of cyclosporin from Dexcel Limited, a Dexxon Company, Israel. This is an important and well established immuno-suppressant drug which is indicated mainly to prevent rejection following organ transplants.
A European patent application for this novel oral formulation of cyclosporin is pending and filings for marketing approvals have been made in various European countries. The 2001 combined market value of this class of drugs in Italy, France and Spain amounts to approximately euro 150 million.
"The agreement with Dexcel strengthens the group's multi-territorial pipeline", declared Giovanni Recordati, Chairman and CEO. "This is the first product for which we have acquired the rights for the three countries where we have a direct presence in a single stroke. Cyclosporin is an important product which we believe will contribute to the consolidation of our future growth."
