Recordati obtains license for a new antiallergy drug in Spain
Milan, 4 September 2003
Recordati announced that it has signed a license agreement with the Spanish pharmaceutical company Grupo Uriach for the marketing and sale in Spain of rupatadine, an antihistamine indicated for the treatment of allergies.
Rupatadine, researched and developed by Uriach and recently approved in Spain, is a latest generation systemic antihistamine and does not cause sleepiness, an undesired side effect of previous generation drugs. The market for this class of drugs in Spain in 2002 was over € 60 million. Rupatadine will be launched by Recordati España in the fourth quarter 2003.
"This agreement consolidates our excellent collaboration with Uriach, our licensee of lercanidipine in Spain for the past five years, and allows us to strengthen our pipeline with a competitive product in an interesting market" declared Vittorio Bonazzi, Vice-President and General Manager Pharmaceuticals of Recordati.
"This is another step that fits with our strategy of growing through partnerships and make the best out of our pipeline. We believe in alliances that go beyond occasional transactions, and our relationship with Recordati is a good example of this" said Dr. Juan Uriach, President of Grupo Uriach."
