Italian Pharmaceutical group 'Recordati' open € 28 million plant in Ringaskiddy
Milano, 14 October 2005
Corporate management members of Recordati, the Milan-based independent pharmaceutical company, were joined today by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mr. Micheál Martin T.D., to mark the opening of the Group's new active pharmaceutical ingredients plant in Ringaskiddy, Co Cork. The € 28 million plant represents the first stage of the Recordati Group's development in Ireland, announced in 2003 and supported by IDA Ireland.
Speaking at the opening, Minister Martin said: " This is an excellent example of the type of investment IDA Ireland is seeking to attract here as it will combine R&D, manufacturing and support functions in a quality, high value operation. This investment continues Ireland's success in attracting pharmaceutical companies that operate at the leading-edge of their business, both in terms of products and future developments. I congratulate Recordati for the speed with which they have made this investment a reality and I wish them well for a rapid build up and the success of this plant into the future."
The Cork site hosts an international pharmaceutical sales and marketing and customer support group as well as the new manufacturing site of the Recordati pharmaceuticals division. It employs 25 people to date and is expected to go to 60 at full production. The plant is currently dedicated to the manufacturing of proprietary pharmaceutical active ingredients, particularly lercanidipine (Zanidip®). As part of the second stage of its development, a Research and Development Centre is also planned.
Recordati, established in 1926, is a European pharmaceutical group, listed on the Italian Stock Exchange (Reuters RECI.MI, Bloomberg REC IM, ISIN IT 0003828271), dedicated to the research, development, manufacturing and marketing of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical chemicals, with headquarters in Milan, Italy and operations in France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
